Charnwood-Dunlop Preschool

Preschool Unit Philosophy

At Charnwood-Dunlop preschool we respect and celebrate the diversity of our families. We embrace a holistic approach to learning using an emergent curriculum that builds on children's sense of wonder, interests and abilities. We believe that young children are capable and competent learners and that a play based learning environment combined with intentional teaching best supports children's learning and development. We acknowledge and support families as the first educators of their children and value our collaborative partnerships.

Our mission

Our mission is to offer high quality learning opportunities, sustain children’s wellbeing and learning, and support families. We engage in on-going professional development in order to provide a high quality learning environment for our children.

General Information

At Charnwood-Dunlop we offer 15 hours a week of preschool education for children in the year before they start school, and 5 hours a week for eligible three year olds. Charnwood-Dunlop Preschool is part of Charnwood-Dunlop School.

Emergent Curriculum

Emergent curriculum is built from children’s curiosity and their investigation of the play environment. We recognise that through observation, documentation, creative brainstorming, flexibility and patience, educators build on children’s prior learning. Through an emergent curriculum educators focus on a child’s sense of wonder as we learn alongside children in the role of researchers.

"Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange, teaching can strengthen learning how to learn. " Loris Malaguzzi

To enrich student learning we make regular use of whole school facilities including the Michael Pilbrow room for music and  movement, climbing equipment and the library in the main building.  We also participate in whole school events such as Harmony Week, Book Week and NAIDOC Week .
