Restorative Practices         j0172570

The term encompasses a range of whole school practices that:

  • provide interventions to deal with significant issues of harm (eg conferencing)
  • offer problem-solving framework for everyday conflicts (eg corridor or playground questions)
  • provide proactive programs that build and strengthen relationships (eg circle time)

Restorative Practices aim to:

  • build relationships, community and connectedness
  • focus on teaching/learning as a social process
  • meet the needs of the people who have been harmed
  • make people who have caused harm accountable in a non punitive way.

All staff at Charnwood-Dunlop School are trained to conduct Playground or Corridor Conferencing. This a method of resolving low level conflict between students that only require the students directly involved. Four staff at Charnwood Primary are trained to conduct major conferences for extremely serious cases when parents, children and other community members are required.
